The Power of 5-Axis Laser Cutting

Earlier this year, LaserGuide, Inc. joined the Noble-X family of companies, further strengthening the range of services we can offer our customers. While LaserGuide brings its own history of excellence, it’s their 5-Axis Laser that sets them apart.

What Makes a 5-Axis Laser Unique—and Why Most Shops Don’t Have One

Unlike traditional 2D or 3-axis laser systems, a 5-axis laser allows for movement along five axes—X, Y, Z (linear), plus A and B (rotational). This added motion enables the laser to:

  • Cut intricate geometries on 3D-formed or tubular components

  • Reach tight angles without repositioning the part

  • Perform fewer setups, improving accuracy and repeatability

  • Maintain beam focus on curved or contoured surfaces

  • Combine cutting, drilling, and welding in a single setup

This level of flexibility is essential for industries like aerospace, medical, and defense, where precision and part complexity are non-negotiable.

However, very few shops offer 5-axis laser capabilities. These systems are expensive, highly technical, and require:

  • Advanced motion control and programming

  • Skilled operators with deep CAD/CAM knowledge

  • Custom fixturing and part-holding solutions

While many shops advertise laser cutting, very few have the technology—and even fewer have the expertise—to handle the most demanding parts. With LaserGuide now part of Noble-X, we do both.
